This morning I took Stuka to Pine Hill Kennel & Sportsman’s Club for a formal evaluation to measure his interest in finding birds. We also ran him through a few basic exercises such as come-when-called, retrieving, and the whoa command to gauge his current level of development. After planting a few grouse, Stuka was hooked to a medium sized check cord and we eased him into the general area where one of the birds was located. Moments later he caught onto the scent, crept in a bit closer, pointed (see above), and up went the bird… he gave chase to one of them for about 30 yards or so, then circled back to check out the original location. Exactly what I was hoping for.
