Dunn Creek Outfitters
Elsa, Kay and I did a morning hunt at Dunn Creek Outfitters in Laingsburg, Michigan. We left Stuka at home as he is still in training, which includes proper acclimation to gun fire. When I booked the hunt 1-1/2 weeks ago, I would have never thought it would be 70 degrees that day. The morning started off in the upper 30s with dense fog, which rapidly burned off with the pending sunshine that dominated the rest of the day. It made for a beautiful landscape.
Elsa hunted with her typical enthusiasm…rarely slowing to a trot. Even when we took breaks she was anxious to get moving again. Given the dense cover of the prairie grasses that were between 4 and 5 feet in height, the “Point” mode on the Dogtra 2505 T&B was priceless. I haven’t used that setting much, but quickly realized it would have been very difficult to locate Elsa (or even realize) she was on-point. The collar also came in handy when she decided to chase a doe. Elsa busted one flush all on her own, pointed 5 pheasants successfully, and we took 3 home…this was over the course of 3-1/2 hours. Not a bad day considering we were both kinda rusty since our last hunt. Kay captured a number of wonderful images below…
